I am going to keep this one simple.  The entire immigration issue revolves around WELFARE.  Nobody on either side complain about the poor immigrants who come to work our fields and do the very tough jobs (excluding Unions).  The entire problem with open borders revolves around immigrants not paying into welfare programs, yet benefit from them.  Going into hospitals without insurance and not having to pay the bill.

Instead of creating a police state as Republicans always do, we would all be better served ending welfare for all.  Then those coming to work would be fine.  Those wanting a free handout can go to Europe.  Yes there is more to it including the war on drugs that empowers criminals, welfare is by far the biggest issue.  Repubs can never think of a solution that doesn’t take away human rights and doesn’t cost more money.

So, although I agree with what you’re saying about republicans, you’re wrong about Illegals. They take up no more than 1.5% of the overall cost of health care in this country – and that’s 12 million people. Besides, ANYONE who is without insurance or money can go to the hospital and not pay. Most illegals don’t do this because they don’t want to risk being discovered and deported. I know doctors who can attest to this fact.

Also, illegals on payrolls pay excise taxes and often don’t file their tax returns. Therefore, they don’t get back any refunds. More taxes for the rest of us. But without some verification of citizenship, illegals can’t get this alleged ‘welfare’ you speak of. This is a specious argument used by the right wing – including some libertarians. With a little research, I think you’ll find that illegals use up a lot less resources that you think.

BTW, according to other research, immigrants both legal and illegal actually create at least one job a piece. They also consume which causes greater demand and creates jobs that way as well.

I usually like your articles, but I gotta say, this one is very light on fact. However, as I wrote earlier I do agree with you on Republicans.

You are correct in being light on facts, but billions are spent on free education, health care, prisons etc. As long as it is one dollar in unearned benefits, Immigration will be a flash point. Ending a failed war on drugs and failed welfare programs would make illegal immigration a non issue is my point. Creating a few high profile cases of arrests (that is all this law will do) just incites more hatred.
